SCRIPTWRITING (JAN-MARCH 2017)
Learn the knowledge and skills to independently write scripts for Film, TV & Radio, whilst developing the craft to communicate your ideas in visual and written form.
Film, TV & Radio Producer Garry Kelly will be the course tutor.
Garry has been working in the film industry for over ten years. Over the duration of this Scriptwriting Course Garry will teach aspiring writers the skills, knowledge and give them the confidence to understand the mechanics of telling a story, knowing the different formats, and showing them how to bring their story from paper to celluloid.
After graduating with a distinction in Film & TV back in 2001, Garry set up a production company where he has acted as a writer, director, editor & producer on a number of short films, documentaries and a feature film. Over the years Garry has read 100s of scripts and knows the many pitfalls that writers make.
This module will help you write professional scripts in the standard industry format, whilst you will also develop your visual communication skills through storyboarding and shooting scripts. Focus will also be given to various storytelling techniques done through lighting, camera movement, music, etc. Participants will also get to adapt their work into another format to strengthen their creativity and writing skills. The course will focus on 3 main projects, which will include research, character development, backstory, themes, timeline, dialogue, body language, locations, etc.
Every story starts with a simple idea, and although you can make a bad movie out of a good story, you can never make a good movie out of a bad story. Without great stories, we would never have great movies.
